This event will be led by Medicinal Herbalist, Vicky Chown, author of The Handmade Apothecary and John Rensten, Forage London founder and author of The Edible City. We will spend the morning collecting wild edible and medicinal mushrooms in an area of stunning private woodland, learning to identify safe and poisonous species, and getting to understand how these amazing organisms protect, regulate and manage the forest eco system. To finish we will look at a few ways to prepare and preserve fungi so as to extract their medicinal qualities, as well as doing some very basic cooking (frying a few of the mushrooms we have picked, just to have a taster).
All walks are held in Hampshire within a few miles of Brockenhurst or Ashurst stations…the exact locations will be provided prior to the event.
Please be advised before booking, some of our mushroom forays may not be suitable for people with mobility difficulties so if in any doubt pleas email me in advance. In addition, please be aware that although the walking element of these events run for approximately 3 hours, that could easily turn out to be 4 hours instead, so I urge you not to book a posh lunch somewhere timed precisely to coincide with the end of the walk, give yourself plenty of leeway.
